Stress Relief & Dealing with Tension |
Question: I work hard all day and sometimes find myself so stressed out my head aches and shoulders get too tight in back. What can I do to cut down on stress and find relief?
Answer: Stress can be deadly and is linked to more medical problems than any other single factor. Recognizing that you are overstressed and need help is a good thing. Here are some quick tips and ideas for dealing with stress.
~Walk around the block. Aerobic exercise can release endorphins which help the body counteract the negative stress-related chemicals that flood your body whenever you feel stressed or worried.
~Try aromatherapy! Our senses are very powerful and therapeutic grade essential oils can be added to a small diffuser, hypoallergenic lotion or bath for stress relief, energizing or relaxation benefits.
Caution: High-quality essential oils are extremely potent and should only be used a few drops at a time and be properly diluted (not applied directly to bare skin). Talk with a massage therapist or health care professional that has had some training in aromatherapy for tips on getting started.
~Get a massage. Often times when we overwork or abuse our bodies it can begin a chain reaction of tension and pain that aggravates our stressed out feeling, causes fatigue and triggers tension headaches. A licensed massage therapist can help you develop a specific plan of action to alleviate the stress and tension you are feeling.
